WP2
The Specific Objective to be achieved in WP2 ACCESS TO FACILITIES, FAIR DATA AND RELATED SERVICES is to connect the established network of distributed national environmental research infrastructures to as wide as possible user community.
Following a user-centric approach and in accordance with the RIs’ network technical capability and mission, access services to the national RIs’ facilities services and fair resources (data, services and other research outputs) will be set up. Most of the 22 RIs participating in ITINERIS already offer data and services (technical, research, innovation up to close to market) from and across different domains of the Earth system - Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Terrestrial Biosphere and Geosphere through different systems, protocols, portals and different access and FAIRification procedures.
ITINERIS builds upon this current effort to improve Access management and FAIRness, developing the conditions for harmonizing standards, metadata and policies amongst the different RIs. It has to be considered that involved RIs are very diverse and on different levels of maturity, but face similar challenges in their operations in regard to FAIR compliance and Access management.
The environmental RIs at European level are already engaged in the long-term collaboration facilitated by the ENVRI community, a common forum for research infrastructure collaboration and co-creation. Most RIs participating in ITINERIS represent the core component at national level of the Environmental RI landscape and are jointly pooling efforts in the H2020 ENVRI-FAIR project, to ensure interoperability of their data and services and connect to the European Open Science Cloud, and in the H2020 ATMOACCESS project, a pilot action of the EC to foster the design and the implementation of a common framework for access to innovative services in atmospheric domain.
WP2 aims to identify, design and implement methodologies, protocols, standards and technological resources to favour the access to multidisciplinary services and data which will enable all national environmental RIs to improve their existing work and will represent a strong step forward for the less mature communities by accessing consolidated best-practices.
