WP7

The main aim of ITINERIS’s WP7 is to provide scientific and open digital data on environmental observations of the solid Earth to the scientific community, the public, and decision-makers according to the Digital Earth concept. This will be achieved by integrating research infrastructures working in different domains (such as SMINO and ATLaS, and part of EUFAR), facilitating and promoting broader and more interdisciplinary access to digital datasets, harmonising their distribution (raw and processed data) by using international standards, thereby ultimately supporting further inter and multi-disciplinary scientific approaches. By harmonising data distribution, we will contribute to the enhanced integration of the different, currently not tightly interconnected, national research infrastructures operating in the realm of geosphere research and monitoring. Forefront instruments and methodologies will be developed and tested at ideal different scales LABS, and the resulting data will feed international VREs, in synergy with other complimentary projects dealing with the components of the Earth System.

The WP will benefit from three pilot sites (Friuli Venezia Giulia region and Tito and Potenza in the Basilicata region) where the full integration of data and their joint distribution will be tested, implemented, and optimised by strengthening and updating the IT infrastructures of SMINO, ATLaS, and EUFAR. The WP aims to provide data of low- to high- temporal and spatial frequency and transient records of Earth processes. Data will include, for the first time, also raw datasets from on land geophysical surveys, airborne data, the newly generated fiber optical strain measurements, and data generated by scientific ocean drilling. We anticipate that the combination of remote sensing, geophysical, geodetic and seismological datasets will foster a community-wide and more comprehensive multidisciplinary dataset usage and promote easier access to observational platforms for future data collection and sharing.
