2nd ITINERIS General Meeting

The second edition of the training course “Access to Research Infrastructures: Process and Modalities,” promoted by the ITINERIS project, was held from March 18 to 20, 2025, at the CNR Research Area in Potenza. The event brought together 20 researchers, technologists, and technicians from the Research Infrastructures (RIs) involved in the project, confirming the interest and commitment to increasingly effective and professional access management in environmental RIs.

The course, totaling 24 hours of intensive training, was led by three experts with extensive experience in managing access to European research infrastructures. Compared to the first edition, this second session offered a more focused and practical approach, aimed at strengthening the operational skills of RI personnel.

Through theoretical modules, hands-on exercises, and ITINERIS-specific case studies, participants were able to deepen their understanding of the fundamental concepts of access management, adopt a user-centered approach, and acquire practical tools to address the different stages of the process—from application intake to peer review, service delivery, and feedback collection. Particular attention was given to service description, cataloguing, and cost definition.

The program was further enriched by two guided visits to the CNR–IMAA Atmospheric Observatory (CIAO), one of the main Italian facilities of the European ACTRIS infrastructure.

During the visits, researchers showcased some of the technologies used for studying aerosols, in-situ clouds, and remote sensing. This gave participants the opportunity to directly observe the infrastructures and instruments available for access through the ITINERIS project.

Feedback from participants was extremely positive and confirmed a strong interest in future editions focused on this topic.
