INAR Winter school 2025

Winter School “Advanced Analysis of Atmosphere-Surface Interactions and Feedbacks”

DATE: 03-14 March 2025.

Venue: Hyytiälä forest station, Finland, https://www.helsinki.fi/en/research-stations/hyytiala-forest-station

Course organizer: Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research INAR, University of Helsinki,

The application deadline is January 28, 2025. The school organizer will inform applicants about the acceptance latest by January 31, 2025.

Application: To apply for the course, please fill in the online application form at: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/132847/lomakkeet.html

The course is aimed for early-stage doctoral students in atmospheric, biospheric and Earth system sciences. Also advanced master’s students can apply.

The main theme of the course is diurnal cycles in atmosphere-ecosystem processes: interannual and seasonal variation in different environments. The course is implemented by working in small groups using programming tools (Matlab, Python, R) for statistical analyses and data visualization. Short introductory lectures on relevant topics will be given during the course.

ACTRIS – CAIS-ECAC – Aerosol In-Situ Course 2025

Fundamentals & Methods for Aerosol Sampling and Physical & Chemical In-Situ Measurements

Date: March 15 to 22, 2025

Venue: National Atmospheric Observatory Kosetice, Czech Republic

Course organizer: The course is organized by CAIS-ECAC & ACTRIS Czech Republic.

The application deadline is January 20, 2025. The school organizer will inform applicants about the acceptance latest by January 31, 2025.

Application: To apply for the course, please fill in the online application form at: https://actris-ecac.eu/summer-school-2025.php

Course contents & learning outcomes: The lecture course provides fundamental knowledge in aerosol sampling & conditioning as well as methods for in-situ measurements of physical and chemical aerosol variables, covering all ACTRIS aerosol in-situ variables. Furthermore, a visit of the National Atmospheric Observatory Kosetice and hands-on training for few aerosol instruments are part of the course. The course will be held face-to-face at the National Atmospheric Observatory Kosetice in Czech Republic. Interactive lectures will be given Sunday to Thursday from 8.00 to 17.00. After dinner, there will be time to meet for leisure activities or discuss with the lecturers. All participants will obtain a certificate for their participation. Target group: The course is intended to people related to the ACTRIS aerosol in-situ measurements at the National Facilities. This could be technicians, advanced master students, doctoral students, as well as scientists. However, the course is however also open to people related to CARGO-ACT, MI-TRAP, GAW, and other external (non-ACTRIS) users.

Lecturers: The course is coordinated by CAIS-ECAC. Lectures are given by top-level experts from the ACTRIS central facility for aerosol in-situ measurements.
