The Italian atmospheric observational capability enhanced through ITINERIS

Through ITINERIS the observational capabilities of Italian components involved in the atmospheric Research Infrastructures (ACTRIS, ICSO, EUFAR, SIOS and cETRa) has been improved. Since the beginning of the project a series of instruments have been acquires (like lidar systems, HATPRO and HALO system, upgrade of 3MV Tandetron accelerator computer control systems including software and hardware, equipment for on-line aerosol production and characterization inside ChAMBRe, XRF online analyser, systems for ionic chromatography, CCN detector, SMPS system, OC/EC systems, AMS gas sample handling interface, bio aerosol samplers and system for stable C and N isotopic ratio measurement, sensors for airborne in situ measurements, FTIRs for columnar trace gases measurements and instruments for pollen characterization.)

The investments made by all the Operating Units (OUs) were also directed towards setting up platforms, shelters, and laboratories, as well as integrating them with existing infrastructure at the OU facilities. The resources allocated through ITINERIS enabled the acquisition of complementary instruments, typically operated by other Research Infrastructures, thereby broadening the scope of observation.

These advancements significantly strengthen the ability of Italian stations to deliver integrated products, such as those developed within Pilot services. Overall, this enhanced distributed observational network positions Italy to play a prominent role at the international level in atmospheric research.

Here is a list of the instruments acquired by the ITINERIS WP4 Ous.
