WP7: Geosphere/Landsurface
WP Leader: Giuliana Rossi (OGS- Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale)
The main objective of the vertical WP7 is to provide scientific and openly accessible digital data on environmental observations of the solid Earth, following the Digital Earth concept. This involves integrating national research infrastructures focused on geosphere research and monitoring with research infrastructures from various domains, facilitating interdisciplinary access to digital datasets while harmonizing their distribution using international standards.. Cutting-edge instruments and methodologies will be developed and tested across different scales, with resulting data feeding into international Virtual Research Environments (VREs) in collaboration with complementary projects. WP7 will leverage three pilot sites to test, implement, and optimize data integration and distribution, strengthening and updating IT infrastructures to foster community-wide multidisciplinary dataset usage and facilitate future data collection and sharing efforts.
Major Objectives
- Data generated by the different IRs will be harmonised and integrated following international standards;
- Improved data transfer capability of all the infrastructures;
- Collecting and distributing data from deep earth-drilling experiments and facilitating the participation of the Italian scientific community in the RI access;
- Improving the collection of geochemical, geophysical, geological, geodetic, and seismological observational data of nearsurface processes in a more holistic framework;
- Improving the multi-parameter observation of the surface processes with spaceborne and airborne SAR infrastructures, and to develop a facility for the digital data distribution.
